Madeline Metzger, 84, of Langdon, ND passed away April 25, 2008 at the Maple Manor Care Center of Langdon, ND.

Madeline Florence Kartes was born May 26, 1923 to Peter and Mary Ann (Brown) Kartes at their farm home in Dresden Township. She attended Dresden #3 and graduated from Wales High School in 1940. She taught school in Cavalier County for four years.

Madeline and Silverius Metzger were united in marriage on July 11, 1946 in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with Father Eckhart officiating.. They farmed in Dresden and Minto townships for twenty years. They moved to Fargo for one year and then returned to Langdon where both Madeline and Syl were employed by the Langdon School System for twenty-one years where she served as the director of the school lunch program.

They were active members of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and were active in many civic organizations. They enjoyed camping, playing cards and watching sports, especially when the children and grandchildren were involved.

She is survived by her husband Syl of Langdon, children: LuAnn (Jim) Schiele of Devils Lake, ND; Mary Beth (Colin) Fetsch of Langdon, ND; Steve (Jane) Metzger of Carrington, ND; Linda (John) Benoit of Langdon, ND and Bonnie (Randy) Carignan of Walhalla, 22 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters: Lawrence (Cyrilla) Kartes of Langdon, ND; Alice (Arnold) Metzger of Langdon, ND; MaryAnn (Dennis) Stewart of Carmel, IN; sister-in-law Alyce Kartes of Langdon, ND, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Tara Schiele, brothers Arthur, Leslie and Fr. Alvin Kartes.

VISITATION will take place from 2 to 5pm Sunday April 27 at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND

PRAYER SERVICE and ROSARY 7:30pm Sunday evening at the St. Alphonsus Church of Langdon, ND

SERVICES 1:00 O ‘Clock Monday April 28, 2008 at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Langdon, ND.
