Henry Sherry Jr was the son of Henry Sherry Sr and Dorothea Shaffer Sherry.

Henry Jr was born May 29, 1831 in Upper Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County, Pa., he died September 20, 1864 in Andersonville, Sumter County, Georgia.

Between 1850 and 1850 he was living in Porter Township, Jefferson County, Pa.

dark hair, fair complexion.

Henry Jr was buried September 22, 1864 in the National Cemetery, Andersonville, Sumter County, Georgia.

He married Catherine Brocious on May 27, 1855 they had three children:

Polly Sherry 1858-bet 1861-1870
John Sherry 1860-1860
Samuel Turney Sherry 1862-1926
m Mary Shaffer

Henry was a carpenter and at the age of 32 he was drafted into Company I Regiment 63 Pennsylvania Volunteers Arm Infantry in the war of 1861. Commanded by Captain McIntosh. Henry was a Private.

George M Shick and Henry were all the members of the 63 Regiment in that part of the country. A gentleman who knew Henry while doing duty said he was well acquainted with Henry and that he was a healthy man and a good soldier subject to no disease. Henry contracted a disease whist in the prison called by the surgeon scurvy and that when this gentleman last saw Henry he was near death from the above mentioned disease and starvation and that he could not survive. Henry died while he was in Andersonville prison of the scurvy.

On September 12, 1865 papers were signed and filed for Wife Catherine Sherry to receive the pension provided by the act of Congress approved July 14, 1862 and that she had two children Lydia, aged 9 years and Samuel aged 3 years. The pension Catherine was entitled to was $8 per month plus $2 extra per child.

After Henry's death Isaac Brocious was declared guardian of the minor children. According to the Act of Congress approved July 14, 1862 pensions were granted to minor children, under sixteen years of age of deceased officers and soldiers.

Henry is buried in an Unmarked Grave in Andersonville Cemetery.

Wife Catherine remarried 16 June 1867 to John Shrauger
