John graduated from University of Pennsylvania with as a Doctor in Medicine in 1811.
John served in surgeon, Col. Shinn's regement in the War of 1812.
In 1822 he and Caroline Clark were married in Philadelphia and disowned at Philadelphia MM for marriage out of unity.
Their children were: Clarance, Henry C., Howard, Augustus F., Algernon Sidney and Theodore. In 1830 he resided in Mississippi. In 1841 he resided in St Louis, MO.
He was appointed to the chair of Material Medica at the University of Missouri in 1853.
He was a long time physician in St Louis, Missouri and President of the Medical Association.
