HAMILTON, Ill. - Laura Bernice Stoneking, 85, of Hamilton, Ill., died at 2:55 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009, in River Hills Village, Keokuk.
She was born on May 15, 1923, in Warsaw, Ill., the daughter of Virgil and Imogene Knight Symmonds.
She married Donald B. Stoneking on Jan. 20, 1941, in New London, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1996.
Survivors include: three sons, Donald B. (Joyce) Stoneking of Basco, Ill., Ronald V. (Kittie) Stoneking of Burlington and Arlo C. Stoneking of Hamilton; a foster son, Richard (LaVonne) Bourne of Quincy, Ill.; three sisters, Mary Kratzer of Phoenix, Ariz.; Ruth Evenchai of Keokuk and Julia Greer, also of Keokuk; six grandchildren, Kevin Stoneking, Renee Hughes, Cheryl Carter, Kent Bourne, John Bourne and Paul Bourne; seven great-grandchildren, Shawn, Brynna, George, Brennen, Alan, Amanda and Jazmin; and a stepgreat-granddaughter, Caitlyn.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Marion Stoneking (1971); her parents, Virgil Symmonds and Imogene Holecek; two sisters, Merle Rose and Hazel Huffman; and three brothers, Jim, Bill and Jerry Symmonds.
She was employed as a clerk for Woolworths and Carson, Pirie, Scott in Quincy, and K-Mart in Springfield and Keokuk. Most recently she worked for Casey's in Carthage.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lamporte-St. Clair Funeral Home in Hamilton.
Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Warsaw.
Visitation is after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lamporte-St. Clair Funeral Home, Hamilton, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials have been established for the Hancock County Alzheimer Groups and Anchor of Hope Church of Keokuk.
