Author. She is remembered for being the daughter of the award-winning Chilean author, Jose Donsos, and authoring his 2009 biography, “Correr el tupido velo” or in English, “Running the Thick Veil.” The book was based on her own memories as well as her father's diaries and 64 notebooks written in 30 years by him, which were released after his 1996 death by Princeton University. Her father had received a scholarship to go to the United States to study and graduated from Princeton University with a BA degree in 1951. The diaries aired the most intimate thoughts of her father, which brought sorrow, joy, and surprises to his family. In regard to the notes, it was difficult to determine what was reality or notes for a fictional novel. Her writing touch on her father's 1970 psychological novel, “The Obscene Bird of Night.” It took her father eight years to finish this novel, and it took her seven years to finished his 440-page biography. Knowing the sources to be used, her father had asked her to be his biographer. Writing the biography consumed her time, but she “did not feel like a victim for writing it”. After the publication of “Running the Thick Veil,” her 20-year marriage ended, and although her three children did not abandon her, they lived with their father. The Donsos couple had adopted her at the age of three months old while they were living in Spain in 1967. She was a 14 year old teenager when her parents returned to Chile. Before becoming a writer, she held positions with several public relations firms and was an event planner. Being adopted, she had done some research in an attempt to locate her biological parents. While researching her father's biography in Spain, she found a lead to locating them, but this proved to be a solid dead-end giving her the knowledge that she would never know who they were. Among the notebooks from Princeton University, she found an unpublished novel of her father's, “Lizard with Tail,” which was published in 2007. Two years after her book was published, she died of a medication overdose, which was decided to be an act of suicide. “Running the Thick Veil” was a commercial success, earned her the Chilean Altazor Award of the National Arts in the category of essay, the prestigious Editing Award, and the recognition of being a worthy biographer.
