Darlene G. Downey, 80, of Chillicothe, Ill., died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at 1:21 a.m. at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
Darlene was born April 15, 1931, in Henry to Fred and Grace (Maubach) Klein. She married Marshall Downey on Aug. 6, 1951, in Lacon, Ill. He survives in Chillicothe.
The next 60 years were spent being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Darlene spent numerous hours volunteering with the church and fostered many foster children. She loved to cook, sew and garden.
Darlene will be greatly missed by her children, Tim (Susan) Downey of Tuscan, Ariz., Judy (Fred) Geick of Chillicothe, Beth (Steven) Wenz of Lacon, Susan Downey of Chillicothe and Charles (Anne) Downey of Magnolia; her grandchildren, Shawn, Kirsten, Krystal, Amber, Brad, Erica, Jake, Brianna and McKenna; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Tori, Trenton and Ava; two brothers, Ronald Klein of Henry and Merle (Mary) Klein of Chillicothe; one sister, Norma Stroup of Henry; and her loving dog, Fanny.
Her parents; one brother, Eugene Klein; one sister, Mary Duke; and one son, Bradley, preceded her in death.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Henry.
