Margaret M. "Marge" Handzus, 80, of 610 Powell St., died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony of Padua Church. Msgr. Jerome Ham will be the celebrant. Members of St. Anthony Altar and Rosary Society will form an honor guard. Servers will be grandchildren: Ron Miller and Greg Sauers; and great-grandchild: Logan Sauers. Giftbearers will be grandchildren: Chad Lucas, Jake Handzus and Kathy Lucas.

Music will be provided by organist Melissa Peters and soloist Margaret Mary Yuhas. Songs will include: "Let There Be Peace on Earth," "On Eagle's Wings," "On This Day, O Beautiful Mother," and "Gentle Woman."

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her sons: Edward, Richard, Andrew, John, Bernard and Ronald Handzus.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Solon, Baker & Telford Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

She was born March 2, 1923 in Streator, a daughter of Bernard and Agnes (Harmsen) Leonard. She married Edward L. Handzus on April 26, 1941 at St. Anthony of Padua Church. He died January 11, 1980.

Surviving are daughters: Agnes "Aggie" (John) Sauers, Barbara (Raymond) Miller Jr., and Janet (Robert) Whalen, all of Sterator; sons: Edward (Ruth), John (Linda), Ronald (Janet) and Andrew Handzus, all of Streator, Richard of Ottawa, and Bernard (Rachel) of Dwight; brothers: Robert (Wilma) Leonard and Ted Leonard, both of Streator; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters: Elizabeth Leonard, Tillie Barnum, Mayme Dunkleberger, Kate Haynes and Sophie Simpson, and one in infancy; brothers: Bernard, Matthew and Leo Leonard, and one in infancy; and three grandchildren.

She worked for Owens-Illinois Glass Company for many years until her retirement.

She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church and its Altar & Rosary Society, and Owens' Golden Emblem Club.
