Harry was born to Edward Apple and Miranda Jane Barton. When he was a young man, his family moved to Iroquois County, Illinois with Miranda's brother John and his family. Miranda died June of 1894. Family lore suggests that she died of what was then known as consumption or as we know it tuberculosis. Edward apparently didn't have the skills to care for his children. Harry was fostered to other families and his siblings, Otto and Mary, returned to Indiana to live with Edward's parents, Daniel and Elizabeth Apple. Harry and Edward both returned to Indiana. On August 4, 1907 Harry married Bessie Ethel Cogle. They lived in Indiana, mostly Boone County, until about 1917. They moved to Danville, Illinois and lived there for several years. At the start of the depression, Harry, a carpenter by trade, went looking for work. His search eventually landed the family in Warsaw, Illinois. He lived there until his death in 1949. To him and Bessie were born 8 children, Lawrence, John Harold, Lowell, Vera Lucile, Floyd, Lloyd, Ross and Helen.
