U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the law department of the University of North Carolina, in 1891, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Waynesville, North Carolina. In 1891, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-second and Fifty-third Congresses, serving until 1895. He presented credentials as a Member-elect to the Fifty-sixth Congress, served (1899-1900), was elected as a Democrat to the Sixtieth Congress, serving (1907-09). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 57. His son Fred Crawford, was the first college football All American from the State of North Carolina.
