He joined the third Maryland Regiment, Company K. and had many thrilling experiences in the Civil War. He spent all three days in the Battle of Gettysburg, also fought in the battles of Chancellorsville, and the Wilderness.
Mr. Taylor served a term in the legislature, and took an active part in the work of the Emory church. He was for many years, a member of the Sunday School Board, and Class leader until he was obliged because of ill health, to retire from active service. He held his position as trustee of the church until death and was a very worthy one. All who knew him felt that he has left a vacancy in Emory church that cannot be filled.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Annie R. Taylor, nee Troyer, and the following children: Moses, Walter and Reuben Taylor, all of Baltimore; J. Howell Taylor, of Medford; Marshall Taylor, of Emory; Mrs. Rebecca Sellars, of Finksburg; Mrs. Laura Raver, of Emory; Mrs. Earnest LaMotte, of Hampstead; Mrs. William Bushey, of Woodensburg. Twenty-one grandchildren survive; also six sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at Emory M.E. church meeting at the house at 2 o'clock. .Rev. Milson Thomas, a former pastor of the deceased, officiating, assisted by the Rev. H.C. Hall. The pallbearers were Messrs. were Wesley Davidson, Benjamin Bond, Nikolas Mummaugh, Frank Roop, Stephen Gill, and Harry Rohrbaugh. Funeral directors Tipton & Son.
