Leiser Icek Bankier, 7, was traveling with his mother and two siblings and maternal grandmother from their home in Warsaw, Poland to New York.

His uncle, Mordka Majzels was waiting in New York and was one of the first people to call the Danish Counsel on behalf of his missing family members.

Due to pogroms and forced military time for Jewish persons living on Russian Territory, many Jews decided to leave. A strong hatred towards Jews meant segregation, starvation, death and forced labour. Many who could afford to, left the country.

The entire family was lost and their bodies not recovered.
