Mary M. Ferris, 74, 300 Grandview Drive, Normal, died at 10:25 a.m. yesterday (Jan. 31, 1990) at Brokaw Hospital, Normal, following a seven-month illness. Her funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Stubblefield Funeral Home, Normal, the Rev. Robert Cooling and the Rev. Ron Lee officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Bloomington. There will be no visitation. Mrs. Ferris was born Oct. 3, 1915, in Frankfort, Ind., the daughter of J.R. and Desse Robertson Swafford. She married Glenn H. Ferris on Sept. 28, 1940, in Indianapolis. He died March 2, 1974. Survivors include one son, Ronald H., Glendale, Ariz.; one daughter, Judith A. Scioscia, 300 Grandview Drive, Normal; one brother, John Swafford, West Palm Beach, Fla.; one sister, Virginia Gilbert, New Port Richey, Fla.; and six grandchildren. One brother, two sisters and one grandchild preceded her in death. Mrs. Ferris was a school teacher for 31 years, retiring from Chiddix Junior High in 1980. She was a graduate of Franklin College in Franklin, Ind., and was a member of the National Education Association and the Parent-Teacher Association for many years. She also was a volunteer at Mennonite Hospital. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Chiddix Junior High.
