Zelma was the prom queen in high school in 1946. She married James Long on June 11, 1947, and they spent the rest of their lives together, which was 49 years. They raised seven children; James, Paul, Linda, William, Angela, Martin, Christine and Laura, and they had fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Their family was her life and joy. One evening, Jim responded to a knock at the door. A couple needed directions, so he invited them in and drew them a map. The man, Carmen Deck, pulled a gun, and when James could not open his safe, he shot him and then Zelma. He received the death penalty. Tonia Cummings, his Sister, received 35 years in prison. Zelma and Jim are dearly loved and missed by their family and friends.
