Maxine E. Sands, my grandma

MISSOULA - Maxine E. Sands, 91, of Missoula died Tuesday, Jan. 6 at her home of natural causes.
She was born Oct. 12, 1906, in Piedmont, Okla., to Claude and Eva Wing. She married Raymond Sands on May 1, 1932, in Columbus, Ga. They moved to Missoula in 1957. She worked at the University Of Montana until her retirement in 1971. Maxine was a life member of the Pythian Sisters, serving as grand chief. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she will be remembered for her fun readings at functions. She was also active in Senior Citizens with quilting and cards. She enjoyed gardening and traveling. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren kept a twinkle In her eye.
She was Preceded in death by her husband in 1971, her parents, three stepdaughters, one sister, five brothers and one grandson. Survivors include her sons, Jack and wife, Betty of Portland, Ore Bill and wife; Merrilee Of Helena: Rex and wife, Marion of Lincoln; daughters; Myrtis Yates of Bay City, Ore., Barbara and husband, Roy Miller of Missoula, Hazel Gregg of Pocatello Idaho: brothers, Connie Wing of Lethbridge, Alberta, Mel of Helena and Ralph and wife, Marie of Ronan; 25 grandchildren, 34 great-
grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 Pm. and Friday from 10 a.m. to p.m. at
Garden City Funeral Home; Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan 10, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 201 S. 5th W with Eric Jacobsen officiating. Interment follows at the Missoula Cemetery. Following the interment, a reception will be held at the church. The family suggests
memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory.
