She was born in Spartanburg, SC to the late Arthur Vernon Cantrell and the late Nellie Fowler Cantrell. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Cantrell and Johnny Cantrell; two half-brothers, Arthur Vernon and Otis Cantrell.
She is remembered and cherished as a godly mother and friend of many, who leaves a legacy of love that began with a heritage of faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a member of Grace Community Church, Marion, NC. She was a hard worker and worked many years doing factory work. She found purpose and fulfillment in her position as Van Driver for the Senior Center of Old Fort, NC as she ministered to the elderly.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, two daughters, Diane Brooks of Old Fort, Glenda Glenn and husband Jay of Marion, and one grandson Joshua Glenn of Hickory; three sisters, Sue Jamison and husband Archie of Old Fort, Vera Brigman of Asheville, and Sarah Owensby of Marion; two half-sisters, Edith Arledge of Mill Springs, NC, and Agnes Newton of Six Flags, SC; two brothers, Glenn Cantrell and wife Sylvia of Morganton, and Raymond Cantrell and wife Pat of Bakersville; and many cherished nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a faithful companion and friend, he cat "Freckles".
Flowers will be accepted, however, it is her wish that donations be made to Hospice of McDowell County, the Senior Center in Marion, or the building fund of Grace Community Church in Marion.
The family received friends at Grace Community Church on Monday April 17, 2006 from 4:00 - 5:30 pm. A Celebration Service of her life followed at Grace. Graveside Services were held afterwards at Cherry Springs Memorial Park in Old Fort.
