Elsie C. Bechtel Age 98, of Canton died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011 in her home following an extended illness.

Born Oct. 26, 1913 in Canton to the late Emanuel and Laura (Myers) Bechtel. She was a life resident of Canton and a graduate of The Ohio State University where she received her Master's of Education Degree in 1954. Elsie retired from Canton City Schools in 1976 after 32 years of service.

She was a member of Valley Chapel Brethren in Christ Church where she had been very active through the years. Elsie served her Lord in numerous mission fields both here and abroad. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Afternoon Garden Club.

Preceded in death by one brother, Paul Bechtel and one sister, Esther Hoover.

Survived by five nieces, Lois Bevington of Canton, Elsie Mae Kreider of Englewood, Ohio, Leona Brubaker of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Janet Stoner of Akron, Pa, Marjorie Groff of Manheim, Pa; a loving daughter and caregiver, Debra A. Givens of Canton; numerous great nieces and great nephews.

A private interment was in Valley Chapel Cemetery. A public memorial service will be Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011 at 2pm in Valley Chapel Brethren in Christ Church with Dr. Charles Burkett officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Brethren in Christ World Missions, PO Box 390, Grantham, PA 17027 or Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Dr., Suite E, Green, OH 44685.
