It was thought that Samuel Vance was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Oregon City with his wife Mary Ellen Hamilton Vance, but he is not.

The cemetery records at Mountain View show there is room for 4 but the Howell monument takes one space, Josiah Howell and his wife Mary Virginia Willis Howell and her mother Mary Ellen Willis Vance are the only ones there(3).

Someone had Samuels dates put on the back of Mary Ellen's Headstone which made everyone think he was there.

My Great Grandmother Minnie Howell McGregor left a note which she said after Samuel's wife died in 1880 he resided with his stepson G.W. Willis near Lebanon. That is why he is buried here and this is his grave.

Samuel was an Oregon Trail Pioneer of 1843. He married Mary Ellen Hamilton Willis Sept 24, 1851 in Oregon City. She is my G-G-G Grandmother and an Oregon Trail pioneer of 1846. They had no children.

Samuel had 3 children with his first wife---?

Amelia (Anna) C. born 1834 Indiana Mar. William Hawkins

Elizabeth B. 1840 Missouri M. John Griffin Aug. 29 1858

Temperance B. 1841 Missouri, Mar. Stephen Foster Jan 1,1857 in Clackamas co.
