BERNARDSTON — Eva May Streeter Nelson, 89, formerly of Bald Mountain Road, passed away peacefully at Poet's Seat Health Care Center in Greenfield on Thursday evening (4-14-11).
She was born in Bernardston on Jan. 25, 1922, the daughter of Harold and Ethel (Cairns) Streeter. She attended Bernardston schools and graduated from Powers Institute in 1939.
She worked most of her life at Streeter's Store in Bernardston.
She was married to Cola R. Nelson on Oct. 6, 1946 in Bernardston. They moved to Arizona in 1976, where she worked as a cafeteria worker at a local school and returned to Bernardston in 1983.
She was a member of the United Church of Bernardston.
The family would like to thank with deep appreciation the staff of Poet's Seat Health Care Center for their wonderful care and kindness for the last two years, where she lived, calling it her home away from home.
She will be lovingly remembered by her family, her husband of 64 years, Cola, and children: Cola R. Nelson Jr. of Southboro and Eva Lee "Tweet" Stratford and her husband Derrell of Bernardston; her siblings, Ernest Streeter and his wife Polly of Bernardston, Mary Merz and her husband Karl of Sun City, Ariz., and Unice Randall and her husband Clarence of Bernardston; her grandchildren: Bruce Stratford and his wife Rebecca, Stephanie Nelson and partner Oliver Stretton-Pow, Gina Glabach and her husband Rob, Chad, Taylor and Travis Nelson; her great-grandchildren: Bryce, Hayley, Olivia and Spencer Stratford, Huxley and Conrad Hilton, Suri Stretton-Pow, Gabrielle and Alexandra Stratford, and step-great-grandchildren: Leo Stretton-Pow and Violet Hilton and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Ansel Delano of Greenfield.
She was predeceased by five siblings: Wendell Streeter, Irene Franklin, Jamie, Milton and Leonard "Whitey" Streeter.
Funeral services will be Tuesday (4-19-11) at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Bernardston, Church Street. The Rev. Raymond Medeiros, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Monday evening (4-18-11) from 6 to 8 at the Kidder Funeral Home, 1 Parker Ave., Northfield.
