E. Byron Braddock

Owner-operator of Braddock Drilling was WWII veteran

E. Byron Braddock, 94, of Wind Ridge, died at 1:40 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2006, in his home.

He was born December 29, 1911, in Richhill Township, a son of Samuel Earl and Mabel May McNay Braddock.

He had resided in Wind Ridge and Richhill Township all his life.

Mr. Braddock was a member of Harmony United Presbyterian Church in Wind Ridge, where he had served as a former deacon and elder.

He was a member of the last graduating class of Richhill Township High School in 1931.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, where he served as a seaman first class on the LST 830 amphibious ship during World War II. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon, American Area Campaign Ribbon and World War II Victory Ribbon. He participated in Okinawa Gunto landings and the occupation of Sasebo.

Mr. Braddock was a former employee of Manufacturers Light & Heat (Columbia Gas) and was a former pipeline laborer and farmer. He was the former owner-operator of Braddock Drilling for more than forty years and was partnered with the late Jesse Gray from 1946 to 1956. He retired in 1986.

He was a former member of VFW Post 4793 and American Legion Post 330, both of Waynesburg, and was a member of Graysville Knights of Pythias Lodge. He was a charter member of Richhill Township Volunteer Fire Department.

On October 19, 1935, he married Helen Regina King, who died November 21, 1999.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his wife, are a sister, Mildred Braddock; and two brothers, Robert M. and Harold "Boots" Braddock.

Mr. Braddock was the last of his immediate family.
