Charles E. Tucker, Jr., 84, of Winterset died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Rev. Dr. Beverlee Bell officiating. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery at Winterset with military honors. Visitation will be Friday from noon to 8 p.m. at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. Memorials given to the family will be directed to the First United Methodist Church.
Charles was born on March 19, 1927 at Winterset, Iowa to Charles, Sr. and Catherine (Givan) Tucker. He had been a lifetime resident of Winterset. Upon graduation from Winterset High School in 1945, Charles entered the U.S. Navy and served until he was discharged at the end of WW II. He returned to attend the University of Iowa and receive his degree. On Oct. 6, 1951, at Winterset he and Sue Haun were married. To this union were born four children. Charles owned the former Tucker Realty in Winterset and worked as a real estate agent and broker until his retirement. He had been a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #184, Winterset Husky Booster Club (was honored by them one year by being named Fans of the Year), and former member of the Winterset Lions Club. Charles was also honored by serving as King of the Madison County Covered Bridge Festival with his wife Sue as Queen.
Charles is survived by his wife, Sue Tucker of Winterset; children, Richard (Cindy) Tucker of Winteret, Mark (Janice) Tucker of Indianola, Sally (Dale) Woolery of Ankeny, and Ned (Lori) Tucker of Lincoln, NE.; grandchildren, Lyndsay Moberg, Bryan Thornburg, Kelsey Lloyd, Brandon Woolery, Brett Tucker, Joe Tucker, Paige Tucker, Nate Tucker, Emily Tucker, Katy Woolery and Amy Tucker; and great-grandchildren, Myles Thornburg and Adryelle Thornburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles, Sr., and Catherine (Givan) Tucker; sister, Elaine Jean Tucker; and brother, James Arnold Tucker.
