Served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS William Grayson. He enlisted on April 25, 1944, and was in foreign service from November 2, 1944 to August 30, 1945.

Jack married Letha Powlus, and the couple had four children. He was employed by the American Car and Foundry in Berwick, Columbia County, Pennsylvania, as a welder. After Leatha died, he married Sarah Huntington on November 2, 1957 at Saint Paul's Evangelical United Brethren Church.
