Julia Ann (Murphy) O'Brien was born on May 7, 1869 in Johnstown, Ireland to Michael Murphy (~1846-~1918) and Julia (Grace) Murphy (1843-1915). She was the 5th of ten children born to the couple.

Julia married Mark Aloysius O'Brien on June 28, 1998 in New York City, New York. Julia and Mark had six children: Joseph Francis O'Brien (1898-1960), George Francis O'Brien (1903-1987), Edward O'Brien (1906-1951), Thomas Vincent O'Brien (1997-1993), Grace Catherine O'Brien (1901-1978) and Julia O'Brien (1912-1997).

She passed away January 26, 1925 in New York City, New York due to complications from diabetes. Julia was buried in St. Raymond's Cemetery.
