Helen Marie Brown Bacon, age 77, died November 10, 2003 at Medical Center of Lewisville. She was born September 14, 1926 in Lewisville to Joe Fred Brown and Lula Mae Prater Brown. Helen graduated from Lewisville High School and was a Fighting Farmer Cheerleader and remained a staunch Fighting Farmer Fan.
She married Charles Ray Bacon September 10, 1946. He preceded her in death on August 11, 1999. Helen worked in Dallas for 15 years at Carr P. Collins and 15 years for R. J. Sperry as Secretary and Bookkeeper. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lewisville and taught Sunday School for many years.
After hearing Brother Jim Angel, Helen and Charles felt God's call to help Brother Angel start Lakeland Baptist Church and were there for 10 years. They then helped start Orchard Road Baptist Church and later returned to First Baptist Church. Dr. Gilbert Calaway asked that Charles and Helen help start the First Baptist Church in The Colony. She taught Sunday there for many years. They again returned to First Baptist in Lewisville where they continued to serve the Lord.
Helen is survived by daughter, Vicki Lynn Houston and her husband, David of Lewisville; grandchildren: Corbett Back of Lewisville; Dena Horton and her husband, Matt of Poolville; Aimee Cameron and her husband, Jason of Round Rock; Dinah Houston of Lewisville; and Alex Bacon of Arlington; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Bobby Brown Sr. and wife, Peggy of Ruidoso, New Mexico; sister, Jean Williams and husband, Dub of Lewisville; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Wayne Bacon in 1987; brothers: T. Jack Brown, Charlie Joe "Wodie" Brown, Billy Wayne "Pete" Brown, and two sisters: Mary Lou Boenker and Dorothy Mae McDaniel.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at First Baptist Church in Lewisville. Dr. Stephen G. Hatfield will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Old Hall Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Corbett Bacon, Alex Bacon, Matt Horton, Jason Cameron, Troy Rogers and Robert Stephens. The family request donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Building Fund at First Baptist Church in Lewisville, 1251 W. Valley Ridge Blvd., Lewisville, Texas 75077.
