OBITUARY:

ANDREW - Cecil Hugh. It is with great sadness the family announce the death of Cecil Andrew. Born November 22, 1927, at Plumas, Manitoba, Cecil's death occured after a short illness at Brandon General Hospital on October 20, 2009.

Cecil was pre-deceased by his parents, Julia in 1954 and Sydney in 1972; three brothers, Gordon in 1960, Ken in 1974 and Ray in 1999; and his dear wife, Lorraine (Couch) in 2008.

He will be missed by his brother, Lloyd of Edmonton, Alberta, sisters Avis Nielsen of Brampton, Ontario, and Irene (Dick) Kuntz of Brantford, Ontario, sister-in-laws Bette Hyndman of Rapid City and Shirley Bollman of Brandon.

Cecil leaves two step-children, Dave (Lesley) Clarke and Barry Clarke of Victoria, British Columbia. Nieces and Nephews: Daryl (Marie) Andrew, Carole Trottier (Kuntz), Garth (Brenda) Andrew, Doug (Susan) Kuntz, Barb (Bruce) Belcher, Allan Andrew, Kurt (Zaida) Nielsen, Shirley (Chris) Martin, Jacquie Esplin, Bev (Doug) Kreller, Wendy (Don) Smith, Lillian (Keith) Vance, Darlene (Vern) Appleyard.

Cecil spent his entire working life farming in the Rapid City area. Basically he spent his whole life helping family. First when his mother passed away he stayed on the family farm and helped his father. When Cecil's father died, [he helped] a bunch of city kids and turned them into farmers. When his nephew Daryl bought an old house to move into Rapid city, Cecil was the one who helped build the basement, block by concrete block until completed.

During the Town of Rapid City's Centennial, in 1983, there was this "young" girl from Victoria, British Columbia who came to visit. This young girl's name was Lorraine and she stole Cecil's heart. It was heart-warming to see this 55 year old confirmed bachelor holding hands with his childhood sweetheart. They were married the following year and Cecil was thrilled to have a whole new family to care for. His emphasis was naturally to his new family and he was happy to assume those responsibilities.

When Cecil retired from farm life, he and Lorraine purchased a home in Brandon, [Manitoba]. Cecil and Lorraine continued to winter in Texas as he had for many years.

Cecil's life changed suddenly with Lorraine's passing in the summer of 2008. Cecil used that time to reconnect with family. It allowed Cecil's great nieces and nephews a chance to spend some time with him. A whole new generation got to know his generosity, sense of humor and his infectious smile. Cecil will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Rapid City United Church on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 2:00 PM. Reverend Barbara Jardine will officiate. Internment will be at the Rapid City Cemetery. Lunch will be served at the Rapid City legion hall immediately following the Internment.
