Joseph Clarence "JC" Ashberry, 59, of North, beloved husband, son, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News.
He was a long-time resident of Mathews County. JC was a graduate of Mathews High School, and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he graduated from the Newport News Shipyard Apprentice School, where he was employed for 13 yrs. He retired from the Department of Transportation, Maritime Administration, James River Reserve Fleet in October 2003 after 25 yrs of service. He was a member of Westville Christian Church in Mathews. JC had a great love for the outdoors and was an avid golfer and hunter, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Ashberry, and brother, Jan Richard. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Vicki Kinkade; his mother, Virginia South Ashberry; two daughters, Jennifer Cornette and husband Jim of Newport News, and Heather Kinkade-Porter of Gloucester, and a grandson, Samuel Cornette.
Interment at H.C. Smither Cemetery.
