Janie Louise Smith Dawkins, 94, of Ellerbe, passed away Sunday, December 19, 2010 at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham. Mrs. Dawkins was born April 26, 1916 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Albert L. and Janie Gibson Smith. She was a long time member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where she had served as church treasurer for 27 years and a Sunday school teacher for 25 years. She retired in 1986 as assistant Librarian from Leath Memorial Library and had also been employed with Commonwealth Hosiery and Richmond County Schools. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl H. Dawkins, a daughter and son-in-law, Kay Nance King and Dave S. King, a granddaughter, Deborah Jean Dawkins, a brother, Albert Smith, a sister, Ruth S. Adcock and a brother-in-law, J.B. Dawkins.
