Berton Henry Walker born June 16th 1922 to William and Nancy Walker of Springfield, MO. October 12th 1940 Berton married the love of his life Edna Rose Sells. They resided at 1901 W. Lee from May 1946 to July 2007. They raised three wonderful children, Rita, Mark and Aaron. On February 1942 he went to work for Powell Brothers Trucking. Berton was inducted into the United States Army on April 9th 1943 where he received his basic training at Fort Bragg North Carolina. August 1944 he was deployed to Liverpool England, where he served as a Sergeant in the 101st Airborne. December 1944 Berton was deployed to France. On January 4th 1945 he entered the Battle of the Bulge and was there for 31 days where he received the Purple Heart for injuries received during combat. On March 24th he was in Welles Germany and remained there until August, he then went to Marseage France heading for China, while loading the ship they were notified that Japan had surrendered. Berton came home September 4th 1945, and was honorable discharged on November 1945. He returned to Powell Brothers / Time D.C. where he worked until he retired. Berton was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years Edna and his grandson Brian. He is survived by his daughter Rita, a son Mark, his wife Sharon, a son Aaron, his wife Gail and 5 grandchildren Sabrina, Luke, Stanley, Jennifer and Kayla and 8 great grandchildren. He was a member of Northwest Baptist Church in Springfield, MO. Berton was 29 years old when he took Jesus Christ as his savior and served the lord until his death. Berton loved his family and his country, he served them both with pride and respect. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 25, 2011 at 10:00 AM in the Greenlawn North Funeral Home. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, with Full Military Honors.
