Earl Francis Monaghan was a son of Thomas D. Monaghan and Mary J. Brown. He was married in about 1916 to Catharine Noll, and they had one son, Thomas Earl Monaghan.

Earl served one year in the Missouri National Guard during World War I. Later, he worked as a promoter in oil development. He died as the result of an automobile accident. At the time of his death, he was divorced and living in St. Louis, Missouri.
