Doris was born in Warrensville on Dec. 23, 1917, a daughter of the late Samuel Edward and Tacey Kimble Lundy.
Her family moved to Bradford, where she married Benedict (Ben) Spako of Salamanca, N.Y., on March 22, 1935. They resided in Williamsport for several years and in 1958 they purchased the Laporte Hotel. Doris was the chef and Ben tended bar and operated the hotel for 16 years, retiring in 1972. Ben predeceased her on April 3, 1972.
Doris was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Laporte and a member of the Laporte Women's Club and the Mountain Ash Cemetery Association. She enjoyed cooking and baking for friends, family, community and church.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Sharon Spako of Muncy; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Leland Pike, Elmira, N.Y., Marie and Dennis Bement Elmira, N.Y.; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Gerrity Spako Beardsley, Newark, Del.; brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Ann Lundy, Williamsport; sister, Mildred Tipton, Long Island, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, James D. Spako of Newark, Del. on Dec. 6, 1992.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 22, at 10 a.m. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Basil's Church, Dushore, with the Rev. Bert S. Kozen, her pastor, presiding. Interment will be in Mountain Ash Cemetery, Laporte.
Friends may call on Tuesday, Nov. 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home in Dushore. There will be a Vigil Service at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
