Emily was a granddaughter of Herman Bronson who founded the village of Peninsula, Ohio. She married Col. Arthur Latham Conger in 1865 upon his discharge from the Union Army. They would have three sons, Kenyon B., Arthur W. and Latham H. Conger. Arthur Conger was a farmer before the Civil War and became an Akron Industrialist afterward. He was elected Summit County Treasurer and Emily took the post of Deputy County Treasurer. This was in a time when women did not have the right to vote. She was also a music lover. She also volunteered often at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Emily was a member of several organizations such as: The Dames of the Loyal Legion, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Women's Relief Corps. Emily began the Cuyahoga Portage Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. After Arthur's death in 1899, Emily went to school in Missouri to study osteopathy and was one of the only women in the country to recieve a degree in this field. She went on to become vice president of the American Assoc., of Osteopathy. She wrote a book called, "An Ohio Woman in the Philippines which told the story of her travels there to help American Soldiers and civilians.
