Mrs LaVern Scherer, 68, died Saturday afternoon at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles, Mo.

Mrs. Scherer was born June 27, 1904 in Clay Co. the daughter of James W. and Effie L. Jenner Dewhirst. She was united in marriage with Jerome Scherer June 1, 1930 in Richland County. Mrs. Scherer was a well known beautician. She was a very active member of the First United Church of Christ and the Women's Guild of the church.

Besides her husband Jerome, she is survived by three sons, Jerry T. of Decatur, Richard D. of Route 6, Olney, and Gaylord L. of Peoria; one daughter, Mrs. Tom (Juldine) Maloney of St. Charles, MO; three brothers, Willard R. Dewhirst of Clay City,Dr. L. W. Dewhirst of Lakeland, FL, and Herman J. Dewhirst of Tracy, CA; four sisters, Mrs. Elsie Smith of Bakersfield, CA, Mrs. Gilbert (Zelma) Toliver of Noble, Mrs. Earl (Winona) King of Olney and Mrs. Joe (Lenora) Sunday of Clay City; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Scherer was preceded in death by an infant brother.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at the Zirkle Funeral home with burial in the Crest Haven Cemetery.
