Husband of Rita J. Chartier. They wed in Hudson, NH, Dec. 31, 1955.
He was educated in local schools and was a resident of the Centralville section of Lowell.
During World War II and the Korean War, Mr. Ashe served in the Navy. Following his honorable discharge from the military, he joined Sullivan Brothers Printers in Lowell, where he was a book binder for more than 40 years before his retirement.
Mr. Ashe was a communicant of St. Michael Church in Lowell, and a former member of the Lowell Lodge of Elks, B.P.O.E. #87.
Besides his wife, he is survived by five children and their spouses, Walter and Charlene Brown, Mary P. and Roger Lemos, Cindy L. Ashe, Robert E. Ashe, and Trisha L. and Gale Ashe; three grandchildren, Brandon J. Lemos, Ryan M. Lemos and Jessica A. Ashe; two sisters, M. Blendenia Dixon and R. Geraldine Curtin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Matthew R. Ashe Jr., and the brother of the late Brendan J. Ashe and Patricia L. Depue.
