He is survived by Iva Goodwin, who shared his life for more than 50 years; her daughters, Erlene and husband, Bob, of Wilton, N.H., and Joette and husband, David, of Gorham; a daughter, Joyce Stutler of St. Albans, Vt.; and two sisters, Beryle Rideout of LaLuz, N.M., and Carlyn Greulich of Freehold, N.J. He was predeceased by two sisters, Gladys Goodwin and Ponola Goodwin Black; and brothers, Edwin, Montelle and Erland.
Fred spent his life enjoying the Maine woods and all its varied association: trapping, hunting, snowshoeing, etc. He was a Maine Guide and enjoyed both hearing and telling a good "yarn." He had many careers in his long and storied life, including working on the Alaska Highway. He amassed a large antler collection, was a well-known Winchester dealer, operated a grocery store and pawnshop, and so much more. He was Uncle Fred, One Honest Gun Man, to three generations of grands, nieces, nephews and assorted other children who loved and were loved by him, especially Hadley Davis.
