Upon his return home, Irv attended Business College in Minnesota before returning to Texas and settling in Dallas. There he was employed by the Republic Bank and was active in the Dallas Junior Chamber of Commerce until his retirement. Irv then took employment at the Texas A&M Extension Service and remained there for ten years.
While living in Dallas, Irv met and married Elsie Neal of Plano, Texas. After his retirement, they moved to Tyler, Texas.
Irv was always active in his church. He always found time to help others in need. After moving to Tyler, Irv served as a greeter at the Caldwell Zoo.
Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Elsie Ahlgren; his daughter, Lynda Ahlgren of Maplewood, MN; two stepsons, Barry Neal, Brent Neal and his wife Rebecca and Bart Neal and his wife Janet; grandchildren, Jonathan, Emily, Hannah, J.D., Alec and Mackenzie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
An evening of remembrance will be held at the Anderson-Clayton Brothers Funeral Home in Terrell, Texas, Monday, December 13, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service for will be held the following day, Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Taylor City Cemetery, Taylor, Texas on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the family plot.
