Born October 29, 1930, at Christian, she was a daughter of the late McKinley and Matilda Hatfield Grimmett. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Diamond L. Altizer Sr.; one son, Diamond L. Altizer Jr.; two brothers, Travis and Ralph Grimmett; one sister, Amanda Walls, and a son-in-law, Doug Barrett.
Edith was a homemaker and attended both Bruno Church of God and Bruno Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Edith's devotion to her family is her legacy. She lovingly cared for both of her parents for over 20 years. She often commented that her sole purpose in life was to give the world her six children. They were her world. She didn't just love her children she was in love with them. Edith enjoyed attending church, making jewelry, bird watching and loving those in her presence. She will be fondly loved and missed by those who knew her and anyone who came in contact with her. She will be remembered especially for her love of the Lord, her uncanny wit and humor and a mischievous twinkle in her eye.
Survivors include three daughters, Dottie Barrett and Doralene (Charles) Bailey, both of Bruno, Peggy (Derrick) Mynes of Milton; two sons, Mack (Alice) Altizer and Joseph (Michelle) Altizer, both of Bruno; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three special caregiver, Lou Lou Walker, Sue Pack and Cricket Hall, and a host of family and friends including Dignity Hospice.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, November 28, at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roger Frye and Rev. Bill Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
