As a young adult, he moved to Parkersburg, WV, attended Mountain State Business College, and began a successful career in business. He was the founder in 1922 of Matheny Motors Company, an automobile and truck dealership which still operates in Parkersburg. He and his wife had one son. Bio by Ronald Decker, his grand nephew.
