Parents: Clarence Everett Allen (1895-1978) & Dora S. Booher Allen (1896-1977).

OBITUARY: Lela Fern McCampbell
Lela Fern McCampbell, youngest child of Dora (Booher) Allen and Clarence Allen, was born in Harrison County, MO on March 2, 1919, and passed away November 11, 1997 at the Bethany Care Center at the age of 78 years, eight months and nine days. Fern spent most of her life in Harrison County, where she and her husband, Carroll, were engaged in farming. Fern was born and raised on a farm next to Mt. Olive Christian Church and became a member of that church at an early age. Fern married Leo Carroll McCampbell on September 7, 1937 and to this union were born Gene, Joyce, Jim and Joanne. Fern loved farm life, and she and Carroll operated a dairy farm until Carroll passed away unexpectedly in 1973. Shortly thereafter, Fern experienced health problems and had to leave the farm and move to town. Fern could not remain idle, but failing health restricted her activities so she started quilting. Her quilting talents received acclaim both locally and nationally, winning ribbons and recognition. One was displayed at the Smithsonian Museum. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant sister, and a grandson. She is survived by a son, Gene McCampbell, Martinsville; a daughter, Joyce Nichols, Bethany; a son, Jim, Bethany; a daughter, Joanne Lill, Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee; a brother, Vestil Allen, Holyoke, Colorado and their spouses; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends. Services were held Nov. 13, 1997, with Pastor Bill Carlile officiating. Interment was in the Logsdon Cemetery. Pallbearer were grandsons and a great-grandson.
