Susan(nah) Ann Hallum was born August 15, 1854, in Lumpkin, Georgia, the daughter of William Baker Hallum and Micca England.
Susan, my great grandmother, married Milligan Clark Woody in Dahlonega, Lumpkin County, Georgia, on November 10, 1878.
Susan and Milligan had 3 children: Lillie Belle Woody, born 1879; Homer Milligan Woody, born 1881, and my grandmother Martha Naomi Woody, born 1884.
Susan passed away less than 3 years later at the age of 32 on April 26, 1886 in Maysville, Benton, Arkansas, leaving her husband Milligan to raise the three children.
The task of raising the children was beyond the ability of Milligan who still had to work to support the family, and a childless couple, Samuel Archibald Duree and his wife Rhoda Louderbaugh/Lauderbaugh-Duree raised the children. Homer married again following the death of Susan and had several other children.

What To Us Is Life Without Thee
Darkness And Despair Alone
When With Sighs We Seek To Find Thee
This Tomb Proclaims That Thou Art Gone

The stone is broken in the middle. 8 rusted metal bolts now pass through the front of the stone and into two large iron vertical straps in the back to secure it.
