George E. Powers, 81, of Woodstock, died Saturday, Nov. 28, at his home.

He was born Dec., 12, 1910, in Crystal Lake, the son of David A. and Mabel (Doherty) Powers.

He was a cattle buyer in McHenry County for more than 30 years. After retiring in 1976 he worked part-time at Powers Paint Shop in Woodstock until 1991.

Survivors include his wife, Helen R. Powers of Woodstock, whom he married on June 25, 1937, in Elgin; two sons, Robert (Barbara) Powers of McHenry and Gerald (Mary) Powers of Elgin; four daughters, Linda (Larry) Rice and Donna (Ken) Jensen, both of Woodstock, Rita (Enn) Rehaste of Fullerton, Calif., and Cindy (James) Sweeney of Fresno, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Sandra D'Orazio of Wautoma, Wis., 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth (Mildred) Powers of Woodstock, Jack (Phyllis) Powers and Joseph (Agnes) Powers, both of Crystal Lake; and three sisters, Dorothy Whiting of McHenry, Mary (Leonard) Burge of Grayslake and Evelyn (George) Freund of Woodstock.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard G. Powers in 1975; and two brothers, David F. and William J. Powers.

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church in Woodstock at 10:30 a.m Tuesday, the Rev. Al F. Harte officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Woodstock.

Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. today at Schneider, Leucht, Merwin and Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock, where a liturgical wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Northeastern Illinois.
