China War Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. he served as a Private in the 44th East Essex Regiment. At the Taku Forts, China, August 21, 1860, Private McDougall with two officers, swimming the ditches were the first of the British established on the walls during the assault. For valour, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal.
