Funeral service is at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time. Private committal service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Kiwanis Club of Rock Island or to UnityPoint Hospice.
Judson Wilmot Briggs III was born June 2, 1938, in Galesburg, a son of Paul H. and Dorothy Dopp Briggs. He married Connie K. Tracy on March 19, 1956, in Monticello, Iowa.
Jud graduated from Galesburg High School and the Allied School of Technology in Chicago with a degree in engineering. He was a former co-owner and president of Quad City Engineering.
He was a longtime active member of the Kiwanis Club of Rock Island and had been presented the George F. Hixson Fellowship Award from Kiwanis International. Jud had also been a member of the Moline Elks and Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club and was a past president of the American Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, fishing, and playing cards of any kind, especially Cribbage.
Survivors include his wife, Connie; daughter, Kim Briggs, Freeport; sons and daughters-in-law, Jud and Chris Briggs, Ankeny, Iowa, and Bruce and Doris Briggs, Moline; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jake) Harker, Nicholas Briggs (Kellee) and Sunny Serres; and two great-grandsons, Ethan Hockman and Jettson Harker. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister and brother-in-law.
