ALMA — Medira Theresa (Brommer) Wenger, age 84, of Alma passed away on Monday, November 24, 2003, at St. Elizabeth Nursing Home in Wabasha, Minn., after a courageous two-year battle with brain tumors.

Medira was born on July 20, 1919, in the town of Alma, Wis., to Selmer and Melvina (Michael) Brommer. Following graduation in 1937, from Winona Senior High School, Winona, Minn., she moved to Alma, where she met her future husband.

On March 28, 1942, she married Lenus R. Wenger at the Reformed Church parsonage on Second Street in Alma. They bought and operated Medira's grandparents' farm (John and Theresa Michael) on Highway 37, just north of Tell, where they still resided. Medira and Lenus loved to travel, visiting all 50 states and twice to Europe.

Medira was a full-time homemaker and partner on their small farm. She was an active member in the Buffalo County Homemakers, both at the local and county levels. Several years ago, she was honored as a 50-year member of the Homemakers. Medira was also a member of St. Paul & St. Luke United Church of Christ in Alma. She was active in the church's women's guild. In early years, Medira liked to paint with oils; and in her later years, she became active in various quilting groups. She taught herself how to crochet doilies.

Survivors include her husband, Lenus; two children, Carol (Jerome) Knabe of Nelson and Robert (Charlotte) Wenger of Coon Rapids, Minn.; three grandchildren, Susan Theresa Knabe of Green Bay, Mathew Wenger of Coon Rapids and Sarah Wenger of Coon Rapids; Three brothers, Carl Brommer of Alma, John Brommer of Shoreview, Minn., and Glen Brommer of Menomonee Falls.
