Murder Victim--Melissa Autry was assualted in her dorm room at Western KY Univ. on May 4, 2003 and died May 7, 2003.

Melissa Kaye "Katie" Autry, 18, of Pellville, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Owensboro native was a member of Pellville Baptist Church, where she was a member of the youth group, Acteens and Assembly Committee and was a student at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. She was a 2002 graduate of Hancock County High School, where she had participated in many activities, including cheerleading, track, Pep, Beta, Spanish and Reading clubs, SADD, Dedicated Teens, FCA, FCCLA, TSA and Principal's Leadership.

She had earned Academic All-State, Honor Roll Student of the Month, Most Improved Cheerleader '98-'99, Who's Who Among American High School Students, Most Determined Cheerleader '00-'01, District Cheerleader 2002, Cords for Above Average Testing Scores and proficient Writing Portfolio, DAPOS Cheerleading Scholarship, Perfect Attendance, 3rd Place Cheerleading in Game All "A" Classic 1999, 2nd Place Cheerleading in Game All "A" Classic 2000.

Her grandparents, Wavie Dewey and Peggy Sue Autry, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her foster parents with whom she lived; her mother; a sister; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
