Anna Margaret Smith, also known as "Sis" was the first daughter and second child of:
James Ralph Smith
Mary Magnolia All
She was sister of:
Carl Mason Smith
Helen Mae Smith-Poff
James Ralph Smith, Jr.
Earl Clarence Smith
Daniel Smith
Rebecca Anne Smith-Mathews
She was born in Pimento, Indiana and graduated from Pimento High School in 1939.
She did not marry until November 30, 1985, two days following her 66th birthday. I was honored as her nephew to walk her down the isle when she married Howard Basil Howe in Terre Haute, Indiana. They had been married three months when she was admitted to Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis Indiana where she died February 28, 1986.
Because of her own mother and father's poor health, Anna, as the oldest daughter of Mary All-Smith and James Ralph Smith, also helped care for some of her siblings as she also looked after her parents.
In her younger days and for many years, she was honored to have the care of the nursery children at (what was known as) Temple Baptist Church in Terre Haute where she attended for many years.
Although she never had children of her own, she had a hand in helping babysit and care for her many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.
She worked her entire life at General Housewares in Terre Haute from where she retiredas a "Beader."
Once her parents moved to Terre Haute from Pimento, she lived her entire life at the family located on S. 12th and Poplar Street.
She remodeled the home and modernized it as she made it a safe and comfortable home for herself and for when her family would come and visit from time to time.
Even after she retired she would babysit nieces and nephews in the "Family Home" which has now been torn down. Located at 235 S. 12th St. in Terre Haute it was the home of her parents and remained in the family for about fifty years. She lived there until she was admitted to the hospital in Indianapolis and where she died.
She was called "Miss Smith; Aunt Anna ; Aunt Sis, and simply, by "Sis." Perhaps short for Sister. I knew her as "Sis"
She is buried next to her parents.
