Ross Decker grew up in New Matamoras, Washington County, Ohio and graduated from Marietta College )BA, Mathematics). His occupations were varied. He was the editor of the weekly news-paper at Glenville, West Virgiinia, then was a school teacher in Wellsville, Ohio. In about 1937 he was employed by the International Harvester Company in a dealer relations position, living at Charksburg, West Virginia then at Oakland, Maryland. In 1943 he joined RCA Corporation, working in sales positions in Chicago and living at Oak Park, Illinois. In 1947 he moved to Cumberland, Maryland where he spent most of his working life as a co-owner of Light & Decker Company, an International Harvester dealer. He was active in the First Presbyterian Church and the Boy Scout council in Cumberland. His long-time first wife Viola (Johnson) Decker died in 1981 in Cumberland. For the last six months of his life he was married to Ruth Pierson Johnson (widow of Viola's brother Lee Barrett Johnson) and lived at her home in Oklahoma at the time of his death. The contributor is one of his two children, both living at the time of his death. His survivors also include three grand-daughters and six great-grandchildren. His daughter died in 2016.
