Sarah Elizabeth Sprinkle, daughter of Mike and Mary Sprinkler, was born in Perry County, Ind., April 23, 1880, and died at her home in McLeansboro, March 24, 1947, at 7:15 a.m. She was 66 years, 11 months and one day old.
She was united in marriage to Andrew Robert James April 17, 1900, and to this union eight children were born, five children surviving Leslie and Appie James of McLeansboro, Ludie Stewart of Peoria, Elmer James of Toledo, Ohio, Lafie James of Reedsburg, Wis., and three children preceding her in death, William James who gave his life in World War I, and Erving and Susie James. "Ma" James, as she was known and called by her friends, was a good mother and kind neighbor. She was always ready to help anyone to whom she could be of assistance.

Funeral services were held at Sanders Funeral Home March 26, 1947, conducted by Rev. D. H. Knight and Rev. Harold Menke. Interment was in the IOOF cemetery.

Who is your best friend here on earth?
Who makes no difference what you're worth?
It's Mother.
Who thinks of you from day to day?
Whose face is worn, whose hair is gray?
It's Mother.
Who always claims the wayward boy?
Who only asks a little job
It's Mother.
