Walter was the son of William George and Lydia Wise. On 23 Apr 1905 he married Lottie Maude Coburn and they had four children: Lowell Evan, Georgiana, William and John Merrill. Lottie died in 1910. On 12 Apr 1917 he married Pearl Comley Manis. At the time of his death Walter was a patternmaker for General Motors, Inc. According to a family letter, both Pearl and Walter died on the same day in separate but connected automobile accidents. Walter went to the curb to retrieve the paper and was struck by an automobile. Pearl went to aid her husband and she, too, was struck. Both of them were killed. Walter died of multiple injuries at the age of 60.

The Vidette-Messenger newspaper - Valparaiso, Indiana - Mar 20 1939
WALTER GEORGE, 62, started across a state highway that runs in front of his home near Anderson to get a newspaper from his mailbox. An automobile traveling south struck him and injured him fatally. George's wife, Pearl, 47, who had walked with him to the roadside, hurried across to give her husband aid when she saw the mishap. But she never got there. Another car going in the other direction killed her, too.

Mr and Mrs George were killed nearly simultaneously when struck by cars on the highway in front of their home. George was hit by one machine as he crossed the roadway and his wife was struck by another car as she ran to where his body lay.
