Virginia Justesen, 89, of St. Paul died Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at Tiffany Square in Grand Island.

Virginia was born Sept. 4, 1922, at St. Paul to Nels and Nellie (Nilsson) Johanson.

Survivors are: husband, Francis Justesen; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Kay Justesen of Lake Preston, S.D.; daughters and sons-in-law, Diann and Terry Tallon of Malcolm, Joan and John Oeltjen of Palmer and Kathy and John Herbig of Elba; grandsons and their spouses, David and Kristie Tallon, Lynn and Nicki Justesen, Jeff and Steph Justesen, Justin and Louise Herbig, and David Herbig; granddaughters and their spouses, Karen Jolliffe, Sheri and Galen Glause, Angie and Mike Pacheco, Kelly and David Anderson, Michelle Oeltjen, Kristie and John Fignar, and Dawinelle and Jeremy Strong; 13 great-grandsons; eight great-granddaughters; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Virginia attended grade school at Bunker Hill and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1940.

Virginia was united in marriage to Francis Justesen on March 5, 1941, in Grand Island. To this union four children were born.

The couple made their home on the farm near Cushing.

She worked as a homemaker while raising their children.

Virginia was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Cushing in 1952. Virginia was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Paul and the ladies group at the church. She also was a member of The Live & Learn Extension Club.

Virginia enjoyed sewing and embroidery projects, candle wicking and ceramics. She loved baking apple pies and cinnamon rolls for her family, neighbors and friends. Her baked sugar cookies were a specialty and were enjoyed especially by her grandchildren. She also made lemon bars and lemon cakes, which were enjoyed by Francis. She also canned produce from her large garden that was planted every year.

Virginia enjoyed neighbors and friends who would stop to see her and Francis, always making sure they would have coffee and baked goods ready for those who stopped for some visiting. Her children remember all the dedication she put into the laundry and cleaning of their home to make sure it was nice and tidy.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John, Al, Jim and Gus Johanson; and sisters Alva Rosburg, Annie Teng, Margaret Lacy, Irene Caudill and Helen Nelson.

Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery, St. Paul, NE.
