B.W. "Buddy" Prather, 63, husband of 43 years to his beloved wife Betty Nave Prather, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at his home after a brief illness.

Born in Lexington, he was a son of the late H.M. and Corinne Prather. He was the owner and president of H.M. Prather & Son Inc. since 1957 and the oldest, active working paving contractor in Lexington, Kentucky.

He attended Christ Centered Church, was a member of Robert M. Sirkle Masonic Lodge, and was an avid musician.

Survivors other than his wife are two sons, Buddy (Della) Prather and Marty (April) Prather; a daughter, Kim (Dave) Paske, all of Lexington; six adored grandchildren, Nicki, Jessica, Olivia and Buddy "Trey" Prather III, Tyler and Kyle Paske; a brother, Donnie (Helen) Prather, Elgin, TX; two sisters, Joan (A.R.) Stephens and Martha (John) Larison, both of Lexington; a sister-in-law, Becky Prather; and lifelong friends, Lionel and Linda Gumm.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Hugh "Sonny" McLean Prather, a sister Helen (Granville) Simmons, and a special friend, Clayton Ray.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, at Christ Centered Church, 2275 Eastland Parkway, Lexington, by friend and Pastor Tommy Howard.

Burial will be in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Scottish Rite services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, at the church.

Pallbearers will be David Gumm, Rusty Kirby, Bob Nave, Don Frederick, William Gabbard, and Larry McVay.
