Funeral services for Robert LaDesmer "Des" Hegwood, age 84, were held 3:00 PM Thursday at Brown-Holley Funeral Chapel in Oak Grove, LA with Rev. Bud O'Neal, Rev. Bill Fowler, Rev. Leonard Garlington officiating. Interment followed in New Forest Cemetery in Oak Grove, LA.
Robert LaDesmer "Des" Hegwood was born July 3, 1926 in Raleigh, Mississippi and passed away Monday, March 14, 2011 in Oak Grove, LA.
Mr. Robert Hegwood was a WWII veteran. He loved to fish. He was an expert rifleman in WWII stationed in Japan. After the war ended he helped rebuild Japan.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Cylie Hegwood; mother, Mable Bruce Campbell; son, Jerry Hegwood.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years Bobbie Jean Hegwood of Darnell, LA; Son, Robert Earl Hegwood, Sr. and wife, Addie of Greenville, MS; Daughter, Angela Thompson and husband, Lane of Pioneer, LA; Six Grandchildren, Kay Smith of Lynchburg TN; Robert Earl Hegwood, Jr and wife, Crissy of Greenville, MS; Shellie Gilbert and husband, David of Greenville, MS; JoAnn Brackin and husband, Howard of Pioneer, LA; Beverly Hegwood of Oak Grove; Alanna Jean Thompson of Pioneer, LA; half-brother, David Hegwood and wife, Martha of Magee, MS; Eleven Great-Grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Paul Philley, Chester Henshaw, James Miley, Joe Thornhill, Larry Cotton, and J.M. Stewart.
